Hi Tim - I recorded the discussion we had in Zone A after reading about your intervention plans and hearing a short extract of the meditation recording; unfortunately we ended up with two groups presenting in the same room so working through the meditation itself would have been unworkable! However, the other participants said they would be keen to run through it in their own space and I have forwarded the link onto them to encourage them to do so, and provide further feedback if desired.

<del datetime="2012-01-16T16:55:15+00:00">Here</del> [Below] is the feedback I recorded on video: <del datetime="2012-01-16T16:55:15+00:00">http://vimeo.com/35063714</del>

Thank you for making the text so easily available to your fellow pg certers, and always good to have a clear and precise summary to make sure I am on the right track. Nice blog and thanks for the links, I will most certainly follow them.

thanks for that inclusive thought (and phone chat) ... I hope a 'community of practice' would emerge sharing different ‘practices of silence’ – interestingly zazen can alternate with periods of kinhin (walking meditation) ... I tried this once but kept bumping into people and things, a bit like walking and using a mobile-phone ... didn't work for me !-]

Thanks ... I’m very interest in the ‘practice of silence’ and the pedagogical possibilities ... this is the topic I wish to pursue for the Negotiated Studies Unit.

A good question, I believe ‘stories and dialogue’ are already embedded/explicit in Biggs notion of Constructive Alignment.

As for meditation, an enquiry into whether the ‘practice of silence’ can improve the learning milieu seems to align with his fundamental idea that : "All teachers can do is to create an environment which is encouraging and supportive of students engaging in the appropriate and necessary mental activity."

Hi Tim,

Quite an interesting preview on the subject relating to the foundations of Zen Buddhist pedagogy. A question I'd like to ask is "How will meditation, stories and dialogue enable you to affect the way we teach as suggested by Biggs"

Chat soon
